The Steps Involved in Placing a Dental Crown

If you’re a planner and you would like to know what to expect during your dental appointments, our Smiles Dental team is more than happy to help you!

Today, we would like to help you prepare for a dental crown treatment in Milwaukie, Oregon, by asking you to expect the following steps when you come into our office:

-Step 1: To begin your treatment, your dentist will need to prepare the tooth that is receiving the dental crown. Before preparing the tooth, she will numb the tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic. Then, she will trim the tooth’s enamel (which is the outer shell of the tooth) to make room for the crown.

-Step 2: Once your tooth is the correct size and shape, your dentist will make impressions of that tooth and will send the impressions to a dental lab where your crown will be created. As the technicians make your restoration, you will be given a temporary crown to wear until your permanent crown is ready.

-Step 3: When the crown is ready, you will come back into our office and your dentist will check the size, fit, and appearance of the new crown. If it provides perfect results, she will remove the temporary crown and will permanently cement the new crown into place.

Now that you know what to expect when placing a dental crown, you will feel more comfortable in the hands of Dr. Elizabeth Miller! If you would like to know more or if you have any questions, please feel free to call 503.342.8500 today and talk to a member of our team. We are happy to help you!
